The Hip-Hop Pedagogy Project is an initiative created to support the use of hip-hop culture and sensibilities in educational spaces to empower educators, youth, and the communities that they represent. We’re here to curate content, stories, and resources that inspire educators, students, and community members to incorporate hip-hop into educational spaces.

Why Are We Here?

We’re here to encourage and support educators to incorporate hip-hop culture and sensibilities into educational spaces and structures, specifically teaching and learning.

Meet The Team

Dr. Edmund Adjapong, a native of the Bronx, NY, is an assistant professor in the Educational Studies Department at Seton Hall University. Dr. Adjapong, a former middle school science educator, is also a faculty fellow at the Institute of Urban and Minority Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and the editor of #HipHopEd: The Compilation on Hip-Hop Education Series. He is the director of the Science Genius Program, a program that engages youth in the sciences through Hip-Hop. Dr. Adjapong is a STEM and Urban Education advocate whose work and research addresses issues of race, class, inequities in education and misperceptions of urban youth. His current focus is on how to incorporate youth culture into educational spaces, specifically on utilizing hip-hop culture and sensibilities as an approach to teaching and learning.

Kelly R. Allen is an Assistant Professor of Curriculum Studies at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. Informed by her time as a high school social studies teacher, Kelly advocates for the inclusion of critical perspectives of race, equity, and inclusion in social studies curriculum and pedagogy. Her current focus is on how to center hip-hop culture in the teaching and learning of race and racism.
